Cardica designs and manufactures proprietary products that automate anastomoses during coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Cardica's automated anastomosis products are designed to replace hand-sewn anastomoses.

By replacing the hand-sewn sutures with an easy-to-use, highly reliable and reproducible automated system, our devices are designed to improve the quality and consistency of the anastomoses, decrease the time required for completing the anastomoses, contribute to better patient outcomes and facilitate minimally-invasive sternum sparing CABG surgery. Our C-Port® systems, which are approved for use in the United States and European Union, are designed to address the needs of surgeons in the following ways:

  • Minimize trauma to both the graft and target vessel;
  • Can be used on- or off-pump;
  • Reduce time required for anastomosis;
  • Produce consistent, reproducible anastomoses;
  • Create compliant anastomoses;
  • Allow mechanically governed repeatability and reduced procedural complexity;
  • Expedite CABG and other anastomotic procedures, potentially contributing to reduced operating room time and associated expenses;
  • Does not interrupt blood flow while the anastomosis is being completed;
  • Work on coronary arteries as small as 1 millimeter in internal diameter;
  • Work with grafts of various diameters and wall thicknesses less than 1.4 millimeters; and
  • Minimize scarring and potential occlusion of the anastomosis by achieving nearly complete alignment of the natural blood lining surfaces of the coronary artery and the graft.
